Ecosystem Ecosystem:all the interacting parts of a biological community and its enviroment. Sustainable enviroment An ecosystem that is capable of withstanding pressure and giving support to a variety of organisms. Biotic The living parts of an organism e.g. a tree, deer or rabbit Abiotic The non-living parts of an ecosystem e.g. river rock or pond Lithosphere The hard part of the earths surface. Hydrosphere All the money on earth including lakes.rivers,oceans.... Atmosphere The layer of gases above earths surface. Biosphere The regions of earth where organisms exist Nutrients A chemical that is essential to living things and is cycled through ecosystems. e.g. O2 Eutrophication When nutrients in aquatic are increased, which increases the the population of primary producers. Photosynthesis When sunlight energy is changed into chemical energy. Trophic Level A category of animals that is defined by how they get their energy e.g. grass is in the first trophic level. Biomass The total mass of living organisms in a certain area or grop Trophic efficiency The measure of ow much energy is transferred from one trophic level to the next higher level. Bioaccumulation When a organism ingest a material (toxins) faster than they than it eliminates them. Biomagnification when toxins consumed by one trophic level move to the next trophic level. Cellular respiration A process when objects release energy from organic molecules (carbohydrates) in the presence of oxygen. Fermentation A process when objects release energy from organic molecules (carbohydrates) without oxygen. Greenhouse gases A gas prevents heat from leaving the atmosphere , in turn increasing the atmospheres temperature. Greenhouse effect The warming of earth because of the Greenhouse gases. Acid precipitation Any precipitation that has a pH level lower than 5.6 caused by acidic gases mixing with water
