- Plasma cells are normally 1.5% of nucleated marrow cells
- Proliferation of plasma cells and/or plasmacytoid lymphocytes (associated with monoclonal production of Ig)
- Polyclonal increases are reactive
- Occurs after the age of 40
- Etiology unknown
- Types include Multiple myeloma and Waldenstroms macroglobulinemia

- Solid tumor with a proliferation of one of more types of cells from the lymphoid series
- Initially develops in areas such as marrow, spleen, or lymph nodes
- Can disseminate into blood
- Unknown etiology (same things that cause leukemias)
