Basic Movements - Ongoing

  1. The Bow
Stand w/ the feet & head in 1st pos, arms by the side or in 1st pos. Bow by inclining the body forward slowly, & return to the proiginal pos. If arms are by the sides, they should be taken to 1st pos on the 1st count following the bow, unless otherwise stated.

The depth of the bow must not be exaggerated, & the count caries according to each dance.

THe exception is the Reel of Tulloch Intro Bow. The arms are taken to 1st pos on the 2nd bow.
  2. Hop
A mvmt of elevation begun on the ball of one foot & finished by landing on the ball of the same foot.
  3. Spring
As for hop, but landing on the ball of the other foot.
  4. Step
    • A transfer of weight from one foot on to the ball of the other foot.
    • Can be executed w/ or w/out travel, & where specially designated, the heel may be lowered to finish on the flat foot.
  5. Assemble
A mvmt of elevation begun on the ball of one foot, & finished by landing simultaneously on the balls of both feet in 3rd or 5th pos.
  6. Disassemble
    • A mvmt of elevation begun in a closed position w/ the weight of the body equally distributed on the flat or balls of both feet, & finished by landing on the ball of one foot w/ the other placed in, or raised to, a specified position.
    • There is no travel in this mvmt, and unless otherwise stated, during the elevation, there is no extension of the foot upon which the dancer is to land.
  7. Change
    • A MofE begun on the balls of both feet in 5th pos, & finished by landing simultaneously on the balls of both feet in 5th pos w/ the other foot in front.
    • - During the elevation, there is no extension towards 2nd aerial pos.
    • - Can be executed using 3rd pos.
  8. Leap
    • A MofE begun on the balls of both feet in 5th pos, then extending both legs to 2nd aerial pos, & finished by landing simultaneously on the balls of both feet in 5th pos, w/ or w/out change of the feet.
    • -On the extension during the elevation, both legs should be sraightened
  9. Brush - Outwards
    • The HP of the WF lightly touches the ground in its progress from 3rd aerial pos very low through 3rd to an open aerial pos,
    • - Or from a rear pos, through 1st to 4th aerial pos.
    • -When an outward brush is executed in conjunction w/ a spring or hop, the WF touches the ground almost simultaneously on landing.
  10. Brush- Inwards
The HP of the WF lightly touches the ground in its progress from an open aerial pos to an accepted closed pos (shuffles) OR to 3rd aerial pos low (HBBB)
  11. A shake is always in executed in conjunction with a ___
    Hop
  12. Shake for Seann Triubhas
    • The WF is progressively extended by 2 or more subsidiary mvmts (called shake actions) from 3rd or 5th pos to 2nd aerial high.
    • The shake comes from the knee controlled by the thigh & they  should be started while flexing the knee of the SL in preparation for the hop, simultaneously on landing from which, the WF arrives at its highest point.
    • Counting "and and a 1"
  13. Shake for Fling
    • The mvmt is always preceded by a placing of the WF in 3rd or 5th pos fro where it is extended to 4th int aerial pos using only one subsidiary mvmt. Thus, the actual shake mvmt consists of 2 shake actions, the 1st finished w/ the WF in 4th int. aerial pos low, & the 2nd w/ that foot arriving to 4th int. aerial pos simultaneously on landing from the accompanying hop.
    • Counting: '1 and [and] a 2' or '1 [and] and a 2'.
  14. When doing a turn with 2 PDB, can there be travel on the 2nd PDB?
There should be little or no travel on the 2nd PDB.
  15. When dancing a PDB along the line of travel, where is the extension of the starting foot towards?
    generally, towards 4th int.
  16. PDB
    • Preparing w/ an extension of the WF to 2nd aerial pos low; spring to that side, bringing the new WF to 3rd or 5th pos, placing it on the HP, then beat (w/out exaggeration) the ball of the WF in 3rd or 5th rear, at the same time sharply extending the front foot, if so required, to begin the next mvmt.
    • Note 1: The same pos, 3rd or 5th, must be used throughout the mvmt.
    • Note 2: When a turn, or part of a turn, is executed using 2 PDBs, there is no extension to finish the 1st PDB, & the 2nd is danced w/ little or no travel.
    • Note 3: This mvmt may also be danced w/ other than lateral travel, in which case the extension of the starting foot is along the required line of travel, generally towards 4th int. pos.
    • Counting 2 PDBs: Swords 1& 2 3& 4
    • All other dances: 1 & 2 3 & 4
  17. Open PDB
As in PDB, except the front foot is placed in 4th-op-5th, and there is no extension at the finish. This mvmt is used only in the Sward Dance, & in the quick steps also executed using 4th pos, 4th int, & 2nd pos.
