Occurs when cells undergo uncontrolled growth and are not regulated by signals involved with controlling cell cycle.
Types of tumors
Benign and Malignant
doesn't invade adjacent tissues such as warts
cancer has metatasized invades other body parts
occurs in epithelial tissues includes melanomas skin, breast, colon
glandular epithelial tissue (salivary gland)
muscles and connective tissues (bone cancer)
lymphoid tissues (tonsil cancer)

least danerous but most common starts in stratum basale
basal cell carcinomas
second most common type of skin cancer sun exxposure, occurs in the keratinocytes of the stratum spinosum
(lungs, penis, cervic, esophagus)
malignant tumor of melanocytes in the epidermis. resposible for most deaths
List the ABCDE rule
- Asymmetrical skin cancer
- Border of the lesion is irregular
- Color: melanomas usually have multiple colors
- Diameter: moles greater than 6mm are more likely to be melanomas than smaller moles.
- Enlarging:enlarging or evolving
