The flashcards below were created by user ekdldksk on FreezingBlue Flashcards. What would you like to do?

  1. Clozapine
    • - atypical antipsychotic
    • - block D2Rs w/ less affinity than 1st gen
    • - less affinity therefore less EPS

    - also found to block 5HT system
  2. Chloropromazine
    • - phenylthiazine
    • - 1st generatino antipsychotic
    • - targets DA-Rs (DA antagonist)
  3. 2 Anti-psychotic drugs
    chlorpromazine, clozapine
  4. Reserpine
    • = depressant
    • - prevent packaging of DA & NA into vesicles, therefore inhibit their release
  5. Functions of:
    1. MAOi
    2. TCAs
    3. SSRIs
    • 1. MAOi --> inhibit NA, 5HT breakdown
    • 2. TCAs --> inhibit NA, 5HT reuptake
    • 3. SSRIs --> inhibit 5HT reuptake

    ==> increase [NA & 5HT] in synapse
  6. Fluoxetine
    • = prozac
    • - SSRI --> inhibits SERT
  7. Phenelazine
    MAOi
  8. Imipramine
    • - TCA
    • - inhibits NAT --> therefore increases [NA] in synapse

    - can also inhibit SERT
  9. Tyramine

    What happens when MAOi's are added?

    What is cheese effect?
    • - causes release of stored MAs
    • - can lead to hypertensive crisis
    • - normally degraded by MAO

    • - accumulation of tyramine --> crosses BBB --> activates sympathetic NS
    • - MAOi also inhibits NA degradation
    • - therefore get exacerbated increase in sympathetic system

    - cheese effect --> cheese has lots of tyramine
  10. MAO
    - function
    - types
    • - breaks down monoamines: 5-HT, NA, DA
    • - MAO-A: found in CNS, liver, GI, placenta
    • - MAO-B: found in platelets
  11. Isoniazid
    • - 1st anti-depressant
    • - removed b/c caused hepatitis
    • - MAOi
  12. Name some Antidepressants

    Name a Depressant
    • Isoniazid - 1st anti-depressant
    • Fluoxetine (aka Prozac) (SSRI)
    • Phenelizine (MAOi)
    • Imipramine (TCA)

    Reserpine
