This may relate to his role in closing the lodge, just as the Master in the East opens it and isassociated with the rising sun. Their positions highlight their association, along with the Master, with the positions of the Sun. It stresses their role as emblematical givers of light, and of the Lodge as a‘sacred’ place filled with divine light when open.
