Lab Values

  1. White blood cell count when exercise is contraindicated
    5000 or less
  2. Hemoglobin Levels at which exercise is contraindicated
    • 8-10 light exercise
    • below 8 no exercise
    • less than 5 leads to heart failure and death
  3. Hemoatocrit and exericise
    • Less then 25% no exercise (blood transfusion needed)
    • 25-30% - light exercise
    • 30-32% resistive exercise as tolerated
  4. Low platelets
    • risk of bleeding and bruising
    • May indicate anemia adverse drug reactions infection or cancer
  5. High Platelets
    • risk of Thrombus
    • Inflammation, infection or cancerwatch for S&S of thrombi or infections
  6. Decreased Platelets with exercise
    • less than 10,000 - bedrest, high risk of bleed
    • 10,000-20,000 - ADL and AROM only
    • 20,000- 30,000 Light exercise only
    • 30,000-50,000 - moderate exercise
    • above 50,000 resistive exercise at tolerated
  7. INR
    • normal .9-1.1
    • Pt on blood thinners 2-3 is normal
  8. INR with exercise
    • less then 2 is ok to exercise if not on anticoagulants
    • Pt on anticoagulants 2-3 is ok
    • If greater than 3 increase risk of bleeding - check with physician
    • 5-7 therapy is contraindicated - high risk of spontaneous bleeding
  9. Blood Glucose Normal Levels
    ideal range between 80-120 mg
  10. Hemoglobin A1c
    normal 4%-6.7%
  11. S&S of Hyperglycemia
    • 300 or higher
    • Deep Labored breathing
    • Dry skin / tongue
    • Fruity breath smell
    • Tachypnea
    • Drowsy, Lethargic
    • Altered mental status
  12. S&S or Hypoglycemia
    • lower than 70mg
    • fatgue, weakness
    • Pallor
    • Shallow breathing
    • Perspiration
    • Slurred speech
    • Lighheaded and dizzy
  13. Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
    • Think Kindneys
    • Kidney issues
  14. Creatinine
