The sum of numbers divided by the number of numbers. Also called the mean.
Average

A line that is used to form a graph.
Axis

The last section of a report. It states the purpose, major findings, hypothesis, and a comparison of the findings from an experiment.
Conclusion

Factors that are kept the same in an experiment. They are not allowed to change.
Constants

Standard of comparison. The "no treatment" group.
Control

Bits of information gathered in an experiment.
Data

A chart to organize and display the collected information from an experiment.
Data table

The factor or variable that may change from the independent variable.
Dependent variable

To find an answer that is close to the exact answer. Your best guess.
Estimate

A test of a hypothesis

A pictorial display of a set of data that shows information in an organized way.
Graph

The line along the bottom of a graph on which the scale for the independent variable is placed.
Horizontal axis (xaxis)

A prediction or educated guess showing the relationship between variables.
Hypothesis

What is changed on purpose.

The information not necessary to solve the problem.
Extraneous information

The information that must be used to solve the problem.
Necessary information

The size of dimension of something.
Measurement

The number that would fall in the middle if the results were arranged in order from the smallest to the largest.
Median

An average that is the number that occurs most frequently.
Mode
