  1. Anticholinergic Drugs
    Ipratropium bromide (Atrovent nasal spray)
  2. Indication
    • Second or third line treatment for allergic rhinitis.
    • Useful for vasomotor rhinitis.
  3. MoA
    • Blocks the action of acetylcholine at parasympathetic sites in the mucosa
    • Competes with acetylcholine for M3 receptor sites(anticholinergic, major), and binds nonselectively to M2 receptor sites(cholinergic, minor)
  4. Onset of action
    Rapid, several minutes
  5. SEs
    • Severe nasal drying
    • Epistaxis
  6. Contra
    Hypersensitivity to the drug
  7. Drug Interactions
    Anticholinergics increase the effects.
