  1. Thesis: Enter Thesis
Muhammad is a very important figure in the islamic faith. He is the one who brought down God's word in the religon. He is also -in the Islamic faith- a Prophet of God sent down to spread Islam and spread God's word.
  2. Muhhamad
    Eye Witness Books
Muhammad was born in 570. the city of Mecca (in what is now Suadia Arabia). He was a member of the Quraysh tribe. Orphaned as a boy, he was brought up his grandfather and uncle. His mission as Prophet of Islam began in 610, when the Qur'an was first revealed to him. Three years later, Muhammad brgan to preach. He attracted some followers, but his teachings about the one God were no widely welcomed in Mecca, where most of the people worshiped idols, many different pagan gods. Eventually he moved to Medina, whch became the center of a great Islamic civilization.
  3. The Qur'an
The Qur'an is the holy book of Islam. Muslims believe that the Qur'an completes the Bible, and believe that the Qur'an contains God's words, not just stories about God's actions. They also believe that the Qur'an is at a higher level of holyness than the Bible.
  4. The Qur'an
    Eye Witness Books
In the year 610, the archangel Gabriell appeared to the Prophet Muhhamad and through Gabrieal, Allah began to reveal the Qur'an, the holy book of Islam. This continued for 22 years. Muslims believe the Qur'an, Allah's final revelation to humanity, completes the sacred writings of the Jews and Christains, but is on a higher level because its text consists of Allah's actual words. Ever since the Qur'an was revealed, muslims have preserved its words, first learning them by heart, and later also writing them down. They aim to live by the Qur'an.
  5. Speech
The Qur'an was revealed to Muhammad during the month of Ramadan, and Islamic holiday. Ramadan was popular before Muhammad, but became an Islamic holiday since Muhammad had recieved the Qur'an during the month of Ramadan.Muhammad recieved the Qur'an when he was fasting at Jabal an-Nur, which literaly means the Mountain of Light. Jabal an-Nur is located a few miles from Mecca. Muhammad often went there to meditate, and every year during Ramadan, stayed at the mountain to pray, fast, and to give to the poor. To be exact, during Ramadan, Muhammad went to the cave called Hirah, at the top of the rocky peak with an opening that faced Mecca. It was very small, but there was enough room to pray. One of his duaghters often gavehim food and water-after sunset of course- so he could stay up there the entire month.
  6. Speech (pray)
Praying is very imortant to the Islamic culture. It is so improtant, that it is consdered one of the five pillars of enlightenment. In Life of Pi, by Yann Martel, Pi watches asa baker prayes. "He stood straight. He muuttered in Arabic. He brought his hands next to his ears, thumbs touching the lobes, looking as if he were straining to hear Allah replying. He bent forward. He He fell to his jnees and brought his hands and forehead to the floor. He sat up. He fell forward agian. He stood. He started the whole thing again"(Martel 60). Muslims will stop what they are doing, get out a prayer mat if they have one, and pray, no matter what they are doing. In places where Islam is strong, people will stop, get out of their cars, and pray in the middle of the street.
  7. Speech (death)
In 632, Muhammad died without leaving an obvious succesor, so as muslims do, they gathered all the promenint muslims and had a meeting. They were not una nimus, in fact, it was a 50/50 split. So they could not decide who the Khalifa would be. One side-the shi'i muslims thought Ali, Muhammad's cousin, should be kalipha and only his desendents could be it as well. And sunni muslims believe that muslims should vote upon it. in the end, on 653, Ali became kalipha, but sunni muslims are still here, trying to change it to voting
