  1. Defenition of Medical Terminology
    The study of divinding words and analyzing medical words into component parts. Analysis of words will make the understanding of complex terminology simplified.
  2. What are the two languages originally from this words.
    • 1) Latin
    • 2) Greek
  3. Root word is
    • Fuondation of the word. A medical term can have one or more roots.
    • Examples would by;
    • cardi-
    • gastr-
    • cyt-
  4. Suffixes are
    • -Found at the end of a word
    • -It change or modifies meaning
    • Examples would by;
    • -itis
    • -logy
    • -lysis
    • -All medical terms have a suffixes.
  5. Prefixes are
    • -Found at the beginning of a word
    • -It changes or modifies meaning
    • Example would by;
    • bi-
    • sub-
    • auto-
    • -NOT all medical words have prefixes.
  6. Rules for combining vowel:
    • 1) When the root ends with a cosonant and the suffix begins with a consonant uses a combining vowel.
    • Examples; *hemat/o/logy
    • 2) When the root ends with a consonant and the suffix begings with a vowel just leave it out.
    • Example; *gastr/itis
    • 3) When two roots are brought togheter if the firsth root ends in a consonant and the second root begins with a vowel ends use the combining vowel.
    • Examples; gast/o/enter/o/logy
    • 4) When the prefix ends in a vowel and the next word part beging with a consonant just join it.

    Examples;*pro/lapse
