  1. Evaporation- only cool never heat

    moving across you (fan/breeze)

in contact with something warmer or colder than you

by which heat radiates outward. (From sun, stove )
  2. Body Mass Index- wt in lbs * 703/ ht in inches squared
  3. Gradation of contraction is a
function o-number of fiber recruited and
    how often you recruit them
  4. dehydration-
have to replace fluid and electrolytes

    Eating disorders-athletes
and women are both a problem

Menstrual Dysfunction or abnormal menstruation – low body, wt low fat, vegetarian can
    effect menstrual cycle

The body stores excess carbohydrate- stores in both muscle and liver
  5. Glycemic Index related
to glucose and glycogen. Foods that trigger the high rise in blood sugar
rapidly. Mostly sugars and starches. ( I missed this in lecture, will cover
  6. Caffeine increase
fat use to increase endurance performance. Increase metabolism (fat burner),
delay fatigue so you can work harder and longer.

    Creatine- loads
the PC system to increase power, decrease fatigue, increase muscle size and wt.
Muscle strains and cramps can occur.
  7. Amphetamines- increase
metabolism and energy output and decrease fatigue, decrease appetite, increase

    Anabolic steroids- Promote
muscle growth and is effective. Can cause roid rage, liver problems

Amino acids- Amino Acids are the chemical units or "building blocks" of the body that
    make up proteins.

Human growth hormone- promotes fat burning. enhances tissue growth by stimulating protein

    Significantly improves long endurance

    Blood doping-remove
and later reinfuse red blood cells to increase bolld o2 capability. Aids
  8. As we age – max
heart rate declines, mature adults are more sensitive to heat and don’t
    tolerate cold as well
  9. Epimysium-the
outermost fibrous sheath that covers a muscle, continuous with the perimysium

Perimysium-a sheath of connective tissue that
    groups muscle fibers into
bundles (anywhere between 10 to 100 or more) or fascicles.

    Myofibrils- a
basic unit of a muscle. composed of long proteins such as actin, myosin, and titin, and other proteins that hold them
  10. Glucose-a simple sugar (monosaccharide) and an
important carbohydrate in biology. Cells use it as the primary source of energy[1] and a
    metabolic intermediate
  11. Type I (Black, Red, Dark) –SLOW TWITCH. iron endurance

Type II (white)- FAST TWITCH power, speed, no aerobic
    capacity ANAEROBIC

    Type IIX (Gray, Intermittent)-
can go either way…..aerobic or anaerobic
  12. Atrophy-Pathology A wasting or decrease in size
of a body organ, tissue, or part owing to disease, injury, or lack of use

Hypertrophy-The enlargement of an organ or
tissue from the increase in size of its cells.Autogenic

    Hyperplasia- abnormal increase in
the number of normal cells in normal arrangement in an organ or tissue, which
    increases its volume
