  1. Gluteus maximus
    • - Superficial fibres: iliac crest, posterior superior iliac spine, lumbar faschia, sacrum, coccyx
    • - Deep fibres: ala of ilium posterior to posterior gluteal line, faschia of gluteus medius, sacrotuberous ligament
    • --> Iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity on femur
    • - Inferior gluteal nerve
    • - Extends and laterally rotates hip
  2. Gluteus medius
    • - Gluteal surface of ala of ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
    • --> greater trochanter
    • - Superior gluteal nerve
    • - Abducts hip
    • Anterior fibres medially rotate and flex
    • Posterior fibres laterally rotate and extend
  3. Gluteus minimus
    • - Outer part of ala of ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
    • --> Anterior part of greater trochanter
    • - Superior gluteal nerve
    • - Abducts and medially rotates
  4. Tensor fasciae latae
    • - Ilium between anterior superior iliac crest and tubercle of crest
    • --> iliotibial tract
    • - Superior gluteal neve
    • - Provides stability to knee and hip in standing
  5. Piriformis
    • Anterior aspect of middle 3 pieces of sacrum
    • through greater sciatic foramen
    • --> posterior extremity of upper margin of greater trochanter
    • - 2nd and 3rd sacral nerves
    • - Laterally rotates
  6. Obturator internus
    • - Obturator membrane and surrounding bone
    • Tendon exits pelvis through lesser sciatic foramen, turns right angle around lesser sciatic notch (bursa)
    • --> Greater trochanter above trochanteric fossa
    • - Nerve to obturator internus
    • - Laterally rotates
  7. Superior and Inferior Gemelli
    • - Upper and lower margins of lesser sciatic notch
    • --> inserts into obturator internus tendon
    • - Sup: nerve to obturator internus
    • - Inf: nerve to quadratus femoris
    • - Laterally rotate
  8. Quadratus femoris
    • - Outer border of ischial tuberosity
    • --> quadrate tubercle on upper aspect of intertrochanteric crest of femur
    • - Nerve to quadratus femoirs
    • - Laterally rotates
