  1. Order of draw (type + color + additive + inversions)
    • Blood cultures (yellow, sterile, 0)
    • Coagulation (light blue, citrate, 4)
    • Blood bank/discard (red, no additive, 5)
    • Chemistry (gold, serum separator tube w/ clot activator, 5)
    • Chemistry (green, heparin, 8)

  2. Process for blood collection
    • Pull card
    • Call patient
    • Introduce
    • Ask birth date
    • Site preference?
    • Pull tubes/ready needle and other equipment
    • Put on glove (left)
    • Place tourniquet
    • Locate vein
    • Clean site
    • Put on glove (right)
    • Draw blood
    • Pop tourniquet (before needle removal)
    • Activate safety/dispose of needle
    • Ask patient to hold cotton/apply patient
    • Initial labels/place on tubes
    • Check for bleeding, place coban/tape
    • Thank patient, wash hands
