  1. Mechanism of Action;
    relaxes vascular smooth muscle, causes vasodilation which results in increased coronary blood flow; dec. preload, afterload.
  2. Indications;
    prophylaxis of angina pain, CHF associated with acute MI
  3. Contraindications & Precations
    • Contraindications; Cerebral hemorrhage; use of Viagra or other EDD drugs within 24-36 hrs, SBP<90.
    • Precautions; postural hypotension, severe hepatic disease
  4. Route &Dosage;
    SL or Spray, 0.4 mg q 5 min. max dose 3 tabs/sprays, Transdermal 1-2 inches on skin q 8 h. IV 10 – 200 mcg/min. May increase by 5 mcg/min q 3-5 min. Mix 25 mg in 250 ml D5W (100 mcg/ml). 5 mcg = 3 gtt/min.
  5. Adverse reactions and side effects;
    headache, hypotension, tachycardia
