  1. Mechanism of Action;
    prolongs duration of action potential and effective refractory period; non-competitive a and b-adrenergic inhibitions; increases PR and QT intervals; decreases sinus rate, decreases peripheral vascular resistance
  2. Indications;
    Ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, cardiac arrest, supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, PSVT, WPW
  3. Contraindications & Precations;
    Contraindications; 2nd and 3rd degree blocks, bradycardia, neonates, infants Precautions; CHF, severe hepatic, respiratory diseases, children; half-life 40 days
  4. Route and Dosage;
    • Cardiac arrest; 300 mg IVP. May repeat 150 mg q 3-5 min. Max; 2,200 mg/24 h. Maintenance Infusion; mix 1000 mg in 500 ml; run at 15 ml/hr or 15 microgtt/min
    • Ventricular dysrhythmias; 150 mg over 10 minutes. May repeat 150 mg every 10 min
  5. Adverse reactions and side effects;
    sinus arrest, CHF, dysrhythmias, SA node dysfunction; hepatotoxicity; ARDS
