  1. Meningitis Info:
    inflammation of menninges (tissue covering the brain and spinal cord. Most common is viral. Bacterial is rare but deadly. Viruses enter thru nose & mouth and travel to brain.

    • from viral illnesses: measles, mumps, herpes
    • no exudate
    • fever, photophobis, headache, myalgias

    • CSF analysis
    • CT scan, MRI, chest xray
    • lumbar puncture

    • ABC
    • vitals every 4 hours
    • manage pain
    • I & O and weights
    • positioning
    • ROM exercises
    • decrease environmental stimuli
  8. Meningitis Drug Therapy
    • broad spectrum antibiotics
    • hyperosmolar & AED's
