  1. word root
    Reveals the central meaning of the word and frequently describes a body part.
  2. suffixes
    Always come at the end of word.
  3. prefix
    Always come at the beginning of the word and will frequently suggest ifnormation about the # of parts, location of the organ, direction, time, or frequency.
  4. combining form
    • -word root and one or more vowels.
    • -can be used between roots
    • -can be used between root and suffix.
  5. singular ending
    • -a, -ax, -is, -ix, -ex, -um, -us, -y
    • Ex: vertebra, thorax, diagnosis, appendix, diverticulum, bronchus, ovary.
  6. plural ending
    • -ae, -aces, -es, -ices, -a, -ies.
    • Ex: certebrae, thoraces, diagnoses, appendices, diverticula, bronchi, ovaries.
