    Parasympatholytic (anticholinergic)
  2. Description
    Anticholinergic (parasympatholytic) bronchodilator that is chemically related to Atropine. Used in the treatment of respiratory emergency
  3. Mechanism of Action
    • Causes bronchodilation and dries respiratory tract secretions.
    • Blocks Acetylcholine receptors, thus inhibiting parasympaththetic stimulation.
  4. Onset of Action
    • Onset: Varies
    • Peak: 1.5-2hrs
    • Duration: 4-6hrs
    • Half-life: 1.5-2hrs
  5. Indications
    • Bronchial Asthma
    • Reversible Bronchospasm associated with chronic Bronchitis
    • Emphysema
  6. Contraindications
    • Acute treatment of bronchospasm
    • Known hypersensitivity
    • Soy/peanut allergy
  7. Precautions
    • MUST monitor vital signs
    • Lung sounds
    • Flow rate
    • Caution with Elderly
    • Cardiovascular Disease
    • HTN

    500ug in small volume nebulizer @ 6-10LPM. Usually mixed with a beta 2 agonist
