    A process for trying to understand nature by observing nature and the way it behaves, and by conducting experiments to test our ideas.
  2. Observation
    (Also known as Data)

    Applies to single or small number of events, describes what happens
  3. Types of Data
    • Qualitative data and
    • Quantitative data
  4. Qualitative data
    Is non-numerical data consisting of general observations about a system.
  5. Quantitative data
    Is numerical data obtained by various measurements on a system
  6. Experiment
    Results either validate (confirm) or invalidate (deny) your ideas
  7. Law
    Applies to all events, describes what happens
  8. Hypothesis
    Applies to single or small number of events, describes why things happen
  9. Theory
    Applies to all events, describes why things happen
