    Calcium Channel Blocker (class IV antiarrhythmic)
  2. Description
    Calcium ion agonist. Causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and slow conduction through AV nodr
  3. Mechanism of Action
    Slows conduction through AV node, causes vasodilation, decreases rate of vascular response, decreases myocardial oxygen demand.
  4. Onset of Action
    • Onset: 3 min
    • Peak: 7 min
    • Duration: 1-3 hrs
    • Half-life 2 hrs
  5. Indications
    Narrow complex tachycardia, SVT refractory to Adenosine, control ventricular rate for A-Fib and A-Flutter
  6. Contraindications
    Severe hypotension, CHF, caridogenic shock, wide complex tachycardia, conduction system disturbance, Wolff-Parkinson-white syndrome, IV beta blockers
  7. Precautions
    Must monitor BP! Keep refrigerated (30 day shelf life at room temp)
  8. Side Effects
    • nausea
    • vomiting
    • hypotension
    • dizziness
    • headache
    • bradycardia
    • heart block
    • asystole
  9. Adult dose
    0.25mg/kg IV bolus over 2 min. After 15 min 0.35mg/kg if converted maintenance dose of 5-15mg/hr

    rarely used
  11. Max Dose
    One dose Max 25mg
  12. Route of Administration
    IV/IO
