Calcium Channel Blocker (class IV antiarrhythmic)
Calcium ion agonist. Causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and slow conduction through AV nodr
Mechanism of Action
Slows conduction through AV node, causes vasodilation, decreases rate of vascular response, decreases myocardial oxygen demand.
Onset of Action
- Onset: 3 min
- Peak: 7 min
- Duration: 1-3 hrs
- Half-life 2 hrs
Narrow complex tachycardia, SVT refractory to Adenosine, control ventricular rate for A-Fib and A-Flutter
Severe hypotension, CHF, caridogenic shock, wide complex tachycardia, conduction system disturbance, Wolff-Parkinson-white syndrome, IV beta blockers
Must monitor BP! Keep refrigerated (30 day shelf life at room temp)
- heart block
0.25mg/kg IV bolus over 2 min. After 15 min 0.35mg/kg if converted maintenance dose of 5-15mg/hr
One dose Max 25mg
Route of Administration
Prefilled syringes, vials
