  2. Description
    Synthetic steroid with potent anti-inflammatory properties
  3. Mechanism of Action
    Potent anti-inflammatory properties. Inhibits many substances that cause inflammation. Inhibits synthesis of pro-inflammatory enzymes. Intermediate acting steroid.
  4. Onset of Action
    • Onset: varies
    • Peak: 4-8 days IM
    • Duration: 1-5 weeks IM
    • Half-life: 3.5 hours
  5. Indications
    Anaphylaxis, Asthma, COPD, Hives, allergic reaction
  6. Contraindications
    None for Anaphylaxis. Not first line
  7. Precautions
    • 1 pre-hospital dose
    • Long term therapy can cause GI Bleed, prolonged wound healing, supression of adrenalcortical steroids
  8. Side Effects
    • Fluid retention
    • CHF
    • HTN
    • Abdominal distention
    • Vertigo
    • Headache
    • Nausea
    • Malaise
    • Hiccups
  9. Adult dose
    125-250mg IV
  10. Pedi Dose
    30mg/kg
  11. Max dose
    250mg
  12. Route of Administration
    IV/IO/IM
  13. How Supplied
    • Prefilled syringes
    • 125 and 250mg vials
