  1. Define: LAND IMMEDIATELY
    The urgency of landing is paramount. Primary consideration is to ensure the survival of occupants. Landing in water, trees, or other unsafe areas should only be considered as a last resort.
  2. Define: LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
    Land without delay at the nearest adequate site (i.e. open field) at which a safe approach and landing can be made
  3. Define: LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
    The landing site and duration of flight are at the discretion of the pilot. Extended flight beyond the nearest approved landing area where appropriate assistance can be expected is not recommended.
  4. ENG 1 FAIL or ENG 2 FAIL
    Conditions/Indications: Respective N1 below threshold value

    • 1. OEI Flight Condition - Establish
    • 2. Affected Engine - Identify
    • 3. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
    • 4. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
  5. FIRE or FIRE (ENG 1 or ENG 2) On Ground
    • 1. Fire Switch (affected engine) - Raise guard, press. (NOTE: Affected engine will shut down automatically. ACTIVE indicator light, BOT 1 legend, and F VALVE CL caution indicator come on. FIRE legend remains on as long as overheat condition exists.
    • 2. Both FUEL PRIME PUMPS - Check OFF
    • 3. BOT 1 / BOT 2 pushbutton - Press. Bottle 1 activated. EXT indicator light comes on. (NOTE: Extinguisher bottle will begin discharging when N1 goes below 50%. After discharge of bottle contents, BOT 1 legend and EXT indicator light go off, BOT 2 pushbutton legend comes on)
    • 4. Clock stopwatch - Start
    • 5. Double Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
    • 6. Passengers - Alert / Evacuate
    • If situation permits and FIRE warning light is still on after 1 minute:
    • 7. BOT 1 / BOT 2 Pushbutton - Press. Bottle 2 activated. EXT indicator light comes on.
    • 8. BAT MSTR switch - OFF
  6. FIRE (ENGINE 1) or (ENGINE 2) In Flight
    • 1. OEI flight condition - Establish
    • 2. Airspeed - Max 100 KIAS
    • 3. FIRE Switch (affected engine) - Raise Guard, press. (NOTE: Affected engine will shutdown automatically. ACTIVE indicator light, BOT 1 legend, and F VALVE CL caution indication come on. FIRE legend remains on as long as overheat condition exists.
    • 4. BOT 1 / BOT 2 Pushbutton - Press. Bottle 1 activated. EXT indicator light comes on. (NOTE: Extinguisher bottle will begin discharging when N1 is below 50%. After discharge of bottle, BOT 1 legend and EXT indicator light go off, BOT 2 pushbutton legend comes on.

    • 9. LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
    • If FIRE warning is still on after 1 minute:
    • 10. BOT 1 / BOT 2 Pushbutton - Press. Bottle 2 activated. EXT indicator light comes on.
    • If FIRE warning remains on:
    • 11. LAND IMMEDIATELY
  7. LOW FUEL 1 and/or LOW FUEL 2
    • 1. Fuel Quantity indication - Check
    • If positive fuel indication in the main tank:
    • 2. Both FUEL PUMPS XFER switches - Check ON
    • 3. Both XFER PUMP Circuit Breakers - Check in
    • If both LOW FUEL warning lights remain ON:
    • 4. LAND WITHIN 10 MINUTES
    • If one LOW FUEL warning light remains ON:
    • 5. Expect Single Engine Failure
  8. XMSN OIL PRESS caution light
    • If one XMSN oil pressure indication is below 1.0 bar:
    • 1. Power - Reduce
    • 2. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
    • If both XMSN oil pressure indications are below 1.0 bar:
    • LAND IMMEDIATELY
    • (NOTE: Descend with minimum power)
  9. AVIO OVHT caution indication
    • CAUTION: The max remaining operating time is approximately 30 minutes
    • 1. INST COOL circuit breaker - Check In
    • If AVIO OVHT caution indication remains ON:
    • 2. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
    • 3. Airspeed - Maintain as high as possible for best cooling effect
  10. ROTOR RPM caution indication
    If rotor is 95% or less, steady light and low-pitch beeping tone. If rotor is 106% or above, flashing light and warning gong. If rotor exceeds 110%, flashing light and steady high-pitch tone.

    • 1. Rotor RPM Indicator - Check
    • 2. Collective Lever - Adjust as necessary to maintain rotor within normal range.
  11. ENG CHIP (system 1) or ENG CHIP (system 2)

    ON GROUND
    • 1. Affected Engine - Identify
    • 2. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
  12. ENG CHIP (system 1) or ENG CHIP (system 2)

    IN FLIGHT
    • 1. OEI Flight Condition - Establish
    • 2. Affected Engine - Identify
    • ALT 1: Single Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
    • ALT 2: Twist grip (affected engine) - Rotate slowly to IDLE, check indications
    • CAUTION: The second alternative enables the crew to use the affected engine for landing if necessary. Be prepared for engine failure. Monitor N1, TOT, Torque, Oil Pressure, and Temperature of affected engine closely. If the parameters fluctuate or limits are exceeded, perform single engine emergency shutdown immediately.
    • 3. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
  13. ENG OIL P (system 1) or ENG OIL P (system 2)
    • 1. Engine Oil Pressure - Check
    • 2. OEI Flight Condition - Establish
    • 3. Affected Engine - Identify
    • 4. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
    • 5. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
  14. FUEL FILT (system 1) and/or FUEL FILT (system 2)
    • Only ONE caution indication:
    • LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE (be prepared for single engine failure)

    • BOTH caution indications:
    • LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (be prepared for dual engine failure)
  15. GEN OVHT (system 1) or GEN OVHT (system 2)
    • 1. Affected GEN switch - OFF
    • CAUTION: If GEN OVHT caution indication remains ON and if there are indications of a fire (e.g. burning odor or smoke), shut down the affected engine.
    • If GEN OVHT caution indication remains on for more than 1 minute:
    • 2. OEI flight condition - Establish
    • 3. Affected Engine - Identify
    • 4. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
    • 5. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
  16. XMSN OIL TEMP caution indication
    • 1. XMSN Oil Temperature and Pressure Indications - Check
    • If indications are within limits:
    • 2. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
    • If indications are above limits:
    • 2. Power - Reduce as much as possible
    • If oil temperature indication remains above limit:
    • 3. LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
  17. Single Engine Failure
    INDICATIONS
    • Yaw left, change in engine noise.
    • Indicators on the affected engine: ENG FAIL, ENG SPLIT, ENG OIL P, FUEL PRESS, GEN DISCON, OVSP FAIL, and VAR NR caution indications. NORM/MAN pushbutton will illuminate with yellow MAN.
    • System instruments will indicate power loss.
  18. Single Engine Failure - Hover OGE

    PROCEDURE FOR FORCED LANDING
    • 1. Collective Lever - Adjust to maintain Rotor RPM
    • 2. Airspeed - Increase if possible
    • 3. Landing Attitude - Establish
    • 4. Collective Lever - Raise as necessary to stop descent and cushion landing
    • AFTER LANDING:
    • 5. Affected engine - Identify
    • 6. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
  19. Single Engine Failure - Hover OGE

    PROCEDURE FOR TRANSITION TO OEI FLIGHT
    • 1. Collective Lever - Adjust to maintain Rotor RPM
    • 2. Airspeed - Increase if possible
    • 3. Collective Lever - Adjust to OEI limits or below
    • 4. Rotor RPM - Trim to maximum
    • 5. Airspeed - Gain, 65 KIAS (VY)
    • AFTER REACHING SAFE ALTITUDE:
    • 6. Collective - Reduce to OEI MCP or below
    • 7. Affected Engine - Identify
    • 8. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
    • 9. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE

    • 1. OEI Flight Condition - Establish
    • 2. Rotor Speed - Trim to Maximum
    • 3. Affected Engine - Identify

  22. SINGLE ENGINE EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN
    NOTE: The VAR NR system will revert to the manual mode automatically. Before performing an inflight engine shutdown, determine if the situation will allow for OEI flight. Make certain that: The controls of the affected engine are selected, and; the collective lever is adjusted to maintain the normal engine within OEI limits.

    • 1. Twist Grip (affected engine) - Rotate slowly to IDLE, check indications, then to OFF.
    • Bleed air heating will be shut down automatically, however, depending on power margin of the remaining engine, may be re-engergized as follows:
    • 2. BLD HTG EMER/NORM switch - EMER
    • 3. BLD HTG rheostat - ON
  23. Engine Overspeed -- Driveshaft Failure

    INDICATIONS
    • VAR NR caution, Rotor RPM decrease.
    • On the affected engine, ENG SPLIT caution, Torque decrease to zero, N1 decrease, N2 increase above NRO and then either drops back to 100% or increases to 123.1%, causing the overspeed protection system to shut down the engine automatically.
    • On the normal engine, Torque, N1 and TOT will increase. N2 will decrease.
    • CAUTION: When an engine has been shutdown by its overspeed protection system, the other engine's system is interlocked to an inactive status. Thus, the normal engine is no longer protected against power turbine overspeed.
  24. Engine Overspeed -- Driveshaft Failure

    PROCEDURE
    • 1. OEI Flight Conditions - Establish
    • 2. Affected Engine - Identify
    • 3. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown - Perform
    • 4. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
  25. Engine Overspeed -- Governor Failure

    INDICATIONS
    • ROTOR RPM warning light may come on
    • VAR NR caution indication may come on
    • ENG SPLIT caution indication may come on
    • NRO and both N2 increase
    • Affected engine: Torque, N1, and TOT increase
    • Normal engine: Torque and TOT may decrease
  26. Engine Overspeed -- Governor Failure

    PROCEDURE
    • 1. Collective lever - Raise as necessary to maintain N2 and NRO within limits
    • 2. VAR NR system NORM/MAN switch - Check MAN
    • 3. N2 TRIM Switch - Try to trim NRO to 101% with matched torque
    • If Step 3 is not possible
    • 4. Affected engine - Identify
    • 5. Twist Grip (affected engine) - Rotate toward IDLE until N2 and NRO stabilize in normal range and FLI needles match
    • 6. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE

    • Approach and Landing recommendations: Make normal power changes to allow the normal engine to operate within limits. If more collective input is needed, adjust power of the affected engine using the twist grip.
    • AFTER LANDING: Rotate twist grip (affected engine) towards IDLE before lowering the collective lever to full-down (maintain NRO and N2 within limits).
    • CAUTION: N2 RPM OVER 123.1% MAY RESULT IN AN ENGINE OVERSPEED (AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN)
  27. Engine Underspeed -- Governor Failure

    INDICATIONS
    • ROTOR RPM warning light may come on
    • VAR NR warning light may come on
    • ENG SPLIT caution indication may come on
    • NRO and both N2s increase
    • Affected Engine: Torque, N1, and TOT increase
    • Normal Engine: Torque and TOT may decrease
  28. Engine Underspeed -- Governor Failure

    PROCEDURE
    • 1. COLLECTIVE LEVER -- Raise as necessary to maintain NRO and N2 within limits
    • 2. VAR NR system NORM/MAN switch -- Check MAN
    • 3. N2 Trim Switch -- Try to trim NRO to 101% with matched torque
    • If step 3 is not possible:
    • 4. Affected Engine -- Identify
    • 5. Twist Grip (affected engine) -- Rotate toward IDLE until N2 and NRO stabilize in normal range and FLI needles match
    • 6. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE

  29. Compressor Stall

    INDICATIONS
    • Popping Sounds
    • Torque and N1 may decrease
    • TOT may increase
    • Slight yaw jerk
  30. Compressor Stall

    PROCEDURE
    • 1. Collective Lever -- Lower
    • 2. Engine Instruments -- Monitor
    • 3. Collective Lever -- Raise Slowly
    • If compressor stall returns:
    • 4. Affected Engine -- Identify (TOT)
    • 5. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown -- Perform
    • 6. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
  31. Droop Compensation Failure
    INDICATIONS: NRO and both N2 decrease when collective is raised, increase when collective is lowered.

    • PROCEDURE:
    • 1. Collective Lever -- Maintain NRO within limits
    • 2. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
  32. Engine Oil Temperature High
    • 1. OEI Flight condition -- Establish
    • 2. Affected Engine -- Identify
    • 3. Twist Grip (affected engine) -- Adjust to 20%-30% torque (TWIST GRIP caution indication comes on)
    • 4. Oil Temperature Indicator (affected engine) -- Monitor
    • If engine oil temp decreases below limit:
    • 5. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
    • If engine oil temp remains above limit:
    • 6. Single Engine Emergency Shutdown -- Perform
    • 7. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
  33. Double Engine Failure -- Flight
    Indications: Left Yaw, NRO and N2 decrease, ROTOR RPM warning light on, both ENG FAIL warning lights on, both ENG OIL P caution indications, both FUEL PRESS caution indications, both GEN DISCON caution indications, and engine instruments on both engines indicate power loss.

    • PROCEDURE:
    • AUTOROTATION -- PERFORM

    ON GROUND
    • 1. Both Twist Grips -- OFF
    • 2. Both FUEL PRIME PUMP switches -- OFF
    • 3. BAT MSTR switch -- OFF

    • if there is an indication that the engines are still running:

  36. AUTOROTATION
    • 1. Collective Lever -- Adjust to maintain NRO within limits
    • 2. Airspeed -- 75 KIAS recommended
    • NOTE: Maximum glide distance: 90 KIAS; minimum rate of descent: 60 KIAS
    • 3. Double Engine Emergency Shutdown -- Perform
    • at approximately 100 ft AGL:
    • 4. Flare Attitude -- Establish (approximately 15-20 degrees). Control NRO.
    • at approximately 8-12 ft AGL:
    • 5. Flare Attitude -- Reduce to approximately 7 degrees
    • 6. Heading -- Maintain
    • 7. Collective Lever -- Raise to stop descent and cushion landing
    • 8. BAT MSTR switch -- OFF
  37. Cabin Fire

    ON GROUND
    • 1. Double Engine Emergency Shutdown -- Perform
    • 2. Passengers -- Alert/Evacuate
    • 3. Fire -- Extinguish if possible

    IN FLIGHT
    • 1. Airspeed -- 65 KIAS recommended

    ON GROUND
    • 1. Double Engine Emergency Shutdown -- Perform
    • 2. Passengers -- Alert / Evacuate

    • 4. Fire -- Extinguish, if possible
  40. Electrical Fire / Short Circuit

    IN FLIGHT
    • 1. Airspeed -- 65 KIAS recommended
    • 2. Passengers -- Alert
    • 3. Heating/air conditioning (if installed) -- OFF
    • 4. Both BUS TIE switches -- OFF
    • 5. Electrical Load -- Reduce as much as possible. Try to isolate the cause of the fire by turning off each PRIMARY BUS in turn.
    • 6. GEN1/GEN2 Switches (in turn) -- OFF; if fire continues, NORM
    • 7. BAT MSTR switch -- OFF; if fire continues, ON
    • if fire has stopped:
    • 8. LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
    • If fire has continued
    • 8. Fire -- Extinguish if possible
    • 9. LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
  41. Tail Rotor Drive Failure -- HOVER IGE
    • 1. Both Twist Grips -- Rotate to IDLE
    • and simultaneously
    • 2. Landing Attitude -- Establish
    • 3. Collective Lever -- Apply as necessary
    • after landing:
    • 4. Double Engine Emergency Shutdown -- Perform
  42. Tail Rotor Drive Failure -- HOVER OGE
    • 1. Collective Lever -- Reduce as required to stop rotation
    • if height permits:
    • 2. Airspeed -- Gain, then proceed with E.P. for Tail Rotor Drive Failure, Forward Flight
    • if height does not permit;
    • 2. Both Twist Grips -- Rotate to IDLE
    • 3. Collective Lever -- Raise to stop descent and cushion landing
    • after landing
    • 4. Double Engine Emergency Shutdown -- Perform
  43. Tail Rotor Drive Failure / Fixed-Pitch Tail Rotor Control Failure -- FORWARD FLIGHT
    • 1. Collective Lever -- Reduce to obtain minimum sideslip angle
    • 2. Airspeed -- Maintain 70 KIAS or higher
    • 3. Suitable landing area -- select
    • NOTE: surface should be hard and flat, left crosswind is advantageous
    • 4. Shallow approach with nose left -- Perform
    • if the airspeed can be reduced below 40KIAS with the nose still pointing left;
    • 5. Airspeed -- Reduce close to the ground until nose is aligned with direction of flight
    • 6. Landing -- Perform
    • if the nose direction changes from left to right at airspeeds higher than 40 KIAS;
    • 5. Airspeed -- increase
    • 6. Approach -- abort; climb to sufficient height for autorotation
    • NOTE: headwind is advantageous
    • 7. Autorotation -- Perform
    • NOTE: in final phase of flare the helicopter will yaw to the left due to friction effects. Before touchdown, reduce groundspeed to a minimum.
  44. Pedal Vibrations
    LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
