Hugo L. Black
This was FDR's first appointment, it was to the Supreme Court. He was a US Senator from Alabam. He was a strong supporter of the new deal. When Hugo Black was first a member of the Senate, he was a member of the KKK. FDR was embarrassed. They both left Washington, they didn't want to talk to the press. He actually resigned from the KKK before his Senate run, but this was a flawed letter, he wrote his letter of resignation in case he ran for Senate, he could say he wasn't a member.
