Charles Nessler, 1905
Where and when does perming originally come from?
Cold Waves : Two types
Who invented the first cold wave?
Arnold F. Willatt.
How long did the first cold waves take to process?
What do you call the newer, improved cold wave? How long does it take to process?
Alkaline wave. 15-30 minutes.
What is the pH of an alkaline wave?
What acid is used in cold waves?
What two types of heat waves are available?
Endothermic and Exothermic
What is the name of the Thioglycolic acid derivative that is found in acid waves?
What is different about heat waves, that makes them more appealing than cold waves?
Heat waves are much gentler on the hair
In the dryer.
Heat is created through chemical reaction, requiring no outside heat source.
Most commonly used end paper technique.
Base control refers to the following two things:
1. Size of the base, in relation to the diameter of the tool.
2. Position of the tool in relation to the base.
One-diameter base size
Most frequently used in perm design.
Most commonly used base control.
Rectangle pattern, or nine-block.
Downward direction, Most basic pattern and can be performed on any sculpted form.
Versatile. Adapts to the contours of the head. Includes a central rectangle and slight diagonal and horizontal partings at the sides.
Staggered configuration. Creates consistent curls, avoids splits between the bases.
Used on medium to long hair.
Alternating oblong pattern.
Creates strong wave patterns.
