    Diuretic
  2. Description
    Potent diuretic with a rapid rate of onset and short duration action.
  3. Mechanism of Action
    • Loop diuretic that inhibits the reabsorption of NaCl in kidneys thus causing a net diuresis.
    • 1mg Bumetanide = 40mg furosemide
  4. Onset of Action
    • Onset: 1-2 min
    • Peak: 15-30 min
    • Duration: 3.5-4 hrs
    • Half-life: 60-90 min
  5. Indications
    Adjunct to nitro and ACE inhibitors in CHF & pulmonary edema
  6. Contraindications
    Only use in severe emergency with pregnant pts
  7. Precautions
    • Dehydration & electrolyte depletion in excessive doses
    • If pt allergic to furosemide usually NOT allergic to Bumetanide
  8. Side Effects
    • Muscle cramps
    • Hypotension
    • Headache
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
  9. Adult Dose
    0.5-1mg
  10. Pedi dose
    None
  11. Route of Administration
    IV/IO/IM
