    Non depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent
  2. Description
    Non depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent with rapid to intermediate onset. Depending on dose intermediate duration of action
  3. Mechanism of Action
    Acts by binding competitively to cholinergic receptors at the motor end plate to antagonize the action of ACh, an effect that is reversible in the presence of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors such as neostimine & edrophium
  4. Onset of Action
    • Onset: 30-60 sec
    • Peak: 1-3 min
    • Duration: 30-60 min
    • Half-life: 14-18 min
  5. Indications:
    adjunct to general anesthesia to initiate ET intubation & provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation
  6. Contraindications
    Known hypersensitivity
  7. Precautions
    • Administer in carefully adjusted doses
    • Slight elevation in HR & BP
    • Tachycardia in pedi
  8. Side Effects
    Bronchospasm
  9. Adult Dose
    • 0.6 mcg/kg for RSI up to 600mcg
    • Maintenance dose 0.1-0.2 mcg/kg up to 100-200 mcg continuous infusion
  10. Pedi Dose
    0.6 mcg/kg for RSI up to 600mcg
  11. Max Dose
    As needed
  12. Route of Administration
    IV/IO
