    Potassium Chloride

    • 1. AWFUL taste- dissolve in 4 oz of water
    • 2. use caution when using with medications that increase the potassium serum levels

    Digoxin

    • 1. Cardiac glycoside used for atrial fibillation and heart failure
    • 2. may cause anorexia, blurred vision and unexplained confusion, and N/V
  10. Lasix
    Furosemide

    • 1. Loop diuretic to treat edema related to heart failure
    • 2. could cause hypokalemia and ototoxicity (renal dysfunction caused by over-diuresis)
    • 3. monitor electrolytes and renal function in elderly

    • 1. SSRI used to treat depression and anxiety
    • 2. has a shorter half-life than Prozac at 27-32 hurs
    • 3. may take 6-12 weeks to see response
    • 4. may cause increased sweating (hyperhidrosis)

    • 2. prolonged used may increase risk of hypomagnesemia, fractures, pneumonia and C. Diff infections

    • 1. SSRI that is used to treat depression, OCD, bulimia. etc.
    • 2. Akathisia ( inability to sit still, restlessness)
    • 3. Longer half life than Lexapro (5 days and 10 days as metabolite) can lead to agitation, sleep disturbances.

    • 1. Off label use is to treat behavioral changes associated with dementia
    • 2. Black box warning- may increase mortaility if used in Alzheimer's patients

    • 2. studies indicate a higher rate of death associated with the use of anti-psychotics in the elderly to treat dementia related psychosis compared to patients receiving placebo.

    • 2. overtreatment symptoms include hand tremors, tachycardia, sensitivity to heat, weight loss, N/V and anxiety

    • 2. increased weight gain and prolactin
