    • Decreases anxiety,provides analgesia,allows reduced anesthetic dose. Monitor for respiratory depression, nausea, vomiting, orthostatic hypotension & pruritis

    H2 Receptor Antagonists
    ~Cimetidine (Tagamet)
    ~Famotidine (Pepcid)
    ~Ranitidine (Zantac)
    • 300mg IV,IM,PO
    • 20mg IV
    • 50mg IV,IM,PO
    • Reduce gastric acid volume & concentration. Monitor for confusion & dizziness in older adults.
  5. Peri-Op Med
    Proton Pump Inhibitors
    ~Lansoprazole (Prevacid)
    ~Omeprazole (Prilosec)
    • 15-60mg PO
    • 20-40mg PO
    • Suppress gastric acid secretion. Monitor for dizziness, HA,rash or thirst.
  6. Peri-Op Med
    Antiemetics
    ~Metoclopramide (Reglan)
    ~Droperidol (Inapsine)
    • 10mg IV
    • 2.5-10mg IM
    • Enhance gastric emptying.Tranquilizer.Monitor for sedation & extrapyramidal reaction (involuntary movement, muscle tone changes, and abnormal posture)
  7. Peri-Op Med
    Anticholinergics
    ~Atropine Sulfate
    ~Glycopyrrolate (Robinul)
    • 0.4-0.6mg IM, IV
    • 0.1-0.3mg IM,IV
    • Reduce oral and respiratory secretions to decrease risk of aspiration;decrease risk of vomiting & laryngospasm.
