What is a solution?
This is a mixture of a solvent and a solute
Give examples of a solution
Salt and water
What is a solute?
This is the substance that dissolves eg. salt
Give an example of a solute
What is a solvent?
This is the substance it dissolves in eg. water
Give an example of a solvent
Explain the difference between soluble and insoluble
Soluble is when the substance dissolves in a solvent eg. sugar is soluble in water whereas insoluble is when the substance does not dissolve in a solvent eg. sand is insoluble in water
What is a dilute solution?
This has a small amount of solute (salt) in a large amount of solvent (water)
What is a concentrated solution?
This has a large amount of solute (salt) in a small amount of solvent (water)
List the four different ways to separate mixtures
Describe two ways that a dilute solution could be made more concentrated
Add more solute
Boil off the solvent (water)
