What is a metaphor and example?
Direct comparison is made between two unlike things that actually have something in common (Jasmine is like a rose)
What is a alliteration and example?
Repetition of the same sounds at the beginning of the words (Scrolls of silver snowy sentences)
What is a simile and example?
A figure of speech in which two unlike things are explicitly compared (like/as) (She is a rose)
What is a hyperbole and example?
Exaggeration is used (you have a million words on that page)
What is onomatopoeia and example?
Imitate the sound associated with the objects/actions they refer to (Ding Dong)
What is imagery and example?
Descriptive language that appeal to one or more of the senses. (sight,hearing,touch,smell,taste)
What is personification and example?
To give human qualities to non living objects ( The sun tiptoes across the meadow)
