  1. Stoichiometry
The process of using a chemical equation to calculate the relative masses of reactants and products involved in a reaction.
  2. Limiting Reactant
Limits the amount of products that can be formed in a reaction.
  3. Theoretical Yield
The amount of product predicted from the amounts of reactants used.
  4. Percent Yield
    • (Actual Yield)
    • Theoretical Yield * 100 = Percent Yield

The comparision between Actual Yield and Theoretical Yield.
  5. Stoichiometric Ratio
A ratio/conversion factor used in stoichiometry.
  6. Wavelength
The distance between two consecutive wave peaks.
  7. Frequency
How many wave peaks pass a certain point per given time period.
  8. Photon
    A tiny packet of energy.
  9. Excited State
    An atom with excess energy.
  10. Ground State
An atom with the lowest possible energy state.
  11. Ionization Energy
The energy required to remove an electron from an individual atom in the gas phase.
  12. The order in which orbitals fill to produce the atoms in the periodic table.
    1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 4s 3d
  13. Locate S, P, D, and F blocks on the periodic table.
    • S block to the left of the dip and very top right.
    • P block to the right of the dip excluding the very top right.
    • D block in the center dip.
    • F block the two rows taken out of the table.
  14. S orbital
    The first sub-level. Spherical shape.
  15. P orbital
The second sub-level. Two lobed orbital.
  16. D orbital
The third sub-level. Four lobed shape.
  17. F orbital
    The fourth sub-level.
  18. Ionic Bonding
    When a metal reacts with a non-metal
  19. Ionic
    Metal and Non-Metal.
  20. Covalent Bonding
Bonding where electrons are shared by the nuclei.
  21. Electronegativity
The relative ability of an atom in a molecule to attract shared electrons to itself.
  22. Polar Covalent Bonding
    Unequal sharing of electrons.
  23. Dipole Moment
A molecule that has a center of positive charge and a center of negative charge.
  24. VSEPR
Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR) Model.
  25. Units of Pressure
    1 atm = 760 Torr
  26. Relate boiling point to vapor pressure.
