  1. Electricity
The flow of electrons from 1 atom to another
  2. 3 Ways to make electricity flow
    • Conductions - Metals
    • Induction - Wire through magnetic field (generator)
    • Friction - Static Electricity
  3. Conductors
    • Things that allow electricity to flow easily
    • metals, water
  4. Insulator
    • Doesn't allow electricity to flow easily
    • wood, glass, plastic, rubber
  5. Semi-Conductor
Chnges from good conductors to good insulators under different conditions
  6. Ohm's Law
    V = IR
  7. Voltage
    The push behind current
  8. Current
    The flow of electrons
  9. AC
    • Alternating current
    • Plugs
    • Changes direction
  10. DC
    • Direct Current
    • Batteries
    • Only flows in 1 direction
  11. Resistance
    • Opposition to the flow of electrons
    • Determines how easily current can flow through a circut
    • Lightbulbs, ovens, resistors, hairdryers
  12. Circut
A closed path where electricity can flow
  13. Wave
A repeating disturbance that transfers energy through a matter or space
  14. Transverse wave
    • A wave that has a disturbance perpendicular to the disturbance of motion
    • Ocean waves, rope, magnetic waves
  15. Compressional / Longitudal Waves
    • Waves that have a disturbance parallel to the direction of motion
    • Sound waves, earthquakes, slinkey
  16. Medium
    • The matter of space that a wave moves through
    • Electromagnetic waves do NOT need a medium to travel through
  17. Parts of a wave
    • Amplitude - The distance the disturbance is away from the equilibrium
    • Wave length - The distance from crest to crest or trough to trough. One complete cycle
  18. Velocity
    • The speed with which a wave moves through a medium. Determined by the density of the medium.
    • Solid - Fast
    • Liquids - Medium
    • Gasses - Slow
    • If the medium does not change, all waves move at the same velocity
  19. Frequency
Number of complete wave cycles per second (Hz)
  20. Harmonics
A series of standing waves created by vibrating an object at its natural frequency
  21. Constructive interference
Two waves combine to make a large wave (antinode)
  22. Destructive Interference
When 2 waves combine to make a smaller (or no) wave (node - no wave)
  23. Fundamental Frequency
    1st Harmonic
