Class: adrenergic agonist
Action: Beta 2 agonist causing smooth muscle relaxation and bronchodilation.
Indication: prevent & reverse bronchospasm
Adverse Effects:arryhthmias, angina, anxiety, headache, dizziness, palpations.
Contraindications: sensitivity to sympathomimetics. caution with htn, cardiac issues, diabetes, elderly, seizures.
- Dosage: Adult 0.25 mg SQ q 20 minutes
- Pedi: 0.01 mg/kg SQ q 20 min.

Action:stimulates uterinesmooth muscle contraction.
Indication: postpartum hemorrhage after infant and placenta delivery.
Adverse: hypotension,HTN, tachycardia, dysrhythmias, anxiety, seizure, N/V, allergy, uterine rupture
Contraindications: second fetus, fetal distress, hypertonic or hyperactive uterus.
Dosage: 3-10 units
Special: Class x

Action: increases uterine contraction force and frequency.
Indication: postpartum uterine hemmorrhage post birth
Adverse: HTN, seizures, arrhythmias, headache, N/V allergic reaction.
Contraindications: sensitivity, HTN, pregnancy, toxemia,
- Adult: 0.2 mg q 2-4 h as needed up to 5 X
Special: Pregnancy Class C

Class: electrolyte, anticonvulsant
Actions: reduces striated muscle contraction to inhibit uterine contractions
Indication: premature labor
Adverse: diaphoresis, hypotension, hypothermia, reduce heart rate, respiratory depression, circulatory collapse.
Contraindications: heart blocks, myocadial damage
- Dose: adult: 1-4 g max 30-40/day
- Pedi: none
Route: IV, IO
