What is polygenic Inheritance?
When multiple genes affect 1 trait.
Continous variation is a characteristic of polygenic inheritance. (e.g. height of humans)
-
Pleitotropy
- When a single gene affects multiple different traits.
- Exam a defect in gene which codes for a protein for oxygen transport leads to disfunctions throughout the body (kidney, heart, etc)
Gene-> protein -> trait 1, 2, 3
-
Epistasis
One gene affects the action of another gene (e.g. pigmentation)
-
Polymorphic traits
When multiple alleles produce more than two distinct phenotypes (e.g. blood group in humans)
-
