  1. Clinical manifistations of respiratory acidosis
    • Neuro: drowsiness, disorientation, dizziness, headache, coma
    • Cordio: decrease BP (vasodialation?), VFib (hyperkalemia), warm and flushed skin (vasodialation).
    • GI: none
    • Muscular: seizures
    • Respiratory: hypoventilation with hypoxia
  2. S&S of metabolic acidosis
    Neuro: Drowsiness, confusion, headache (vasodialation), coma

    Cardiovasc: decerase in BP, dysrythmias, warm, flushed skin (vasodialation)

    GI: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abd pain.

    Muscular: none

    Respiratory: deep and rapid respirations
  3. S/S respiratory alkalosis
    hyperventilated

    • Neuro: leathargy, light  headedness. confusion
    • Cardio: Tachycardia, dysrhythmias (hypokalemia).
    • GI: Nausea, vomiting, epi pain.
    • Mascular: tetany, numbness, tingling, hyperreflexia, seizures
    • Respiratory: hyperventilation
  4. metabolic alkalosis s&s
    • HypoK: weakness, myalgia, polyuria, cardiac arrhythmis.
    • HypoCa: jitters, tingling, spasms, change in mental status.
    • Neuro: drowsiness, sizziness, nerousness, confusion
    • cardio: tachycardia, dysrythmias
    • GI: anorexia, nausea, vomiting
    • Muscular: tremors, hypertonic muscles, muscle cramps, tetany, tingling, seizures
    • Respiratory: hypoventilation
    • Causes Cushing Syndrome, diuretics, renal disease.
