cardiac drugs

  1. Beta Blockers
The LOLs -reduce BP by preventing beta receptors in the heart to be stimulated, there by lowering bp decrease the HR and dilate the blood vessals , decrease cardiac work load .
  2. Beta blockers  common  adeverse sides effects
Impotence, Bradycardia, dizziness, weakness, hypotension, n/v, diarrhea, nervousnes
  3. Beta blockers

    Acebutolol, atenolol(Tenormin) , betaxlol,bisoprolol,
esmolol, metoprolol( Lopressor), nadolol, nebivolol,  pindolol, propanolol, sotalol, timolol,
  4. Ace Inhibitors - The prils ,Reduce Pulmonary congestion and peripheral edema

May cause significant drop in BP when treatment is intiated causing ortho HTN,
Prevents sodium and water from being retained and b/p decreases
Common sides affects  DRY COUGH,less effective in blacks , Heache, dizziness, fatigue
Benzepril, catopril, enalapril, fosinopril, lisinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, ramipril, trandopril
  5. Calcium channnel blockers - inhibit  the flow of CA+ across cardiac cells so they relax arterial smooth muscle and lower bp thru vasodialation , increase the suppl of o2 to the heart, and reduce work load

Common adverse affects - headaches, dizziness,
    • Amlodipine(norvasc)
    • diltiazem(cardizem) use for HTN, atrial fib/flutter,
    • felodipine, isradipine, nifedipine(procardia), nisoldpine,verapamil
  6. Nitroglycerin- act by relaxing the smooth muscle layer of blood vessals , increasing the lumen of the artery or arteriole, and increasing the amount of blood flowing the vessals . Sn increse blood flow results in and increase in O2 supply to surrounding tissues .
Side effects - headache , hypotension, dizziness, weakness, flushing , rash
  7. Thrombolytics  aka fibrolytic- dissolve blood clots that have already formed with in the walls of a blood vessal

    Common sides effects - bleeding
    alteplase, retaplase, streptokase, tenecteplase, urokinase,
  8. Digoxin - Hf atrial fibriallation
Side effects - headache, weakness, drowsiness, visual distubances, n/v, arrythmais
  9. Antiarrhythmic drugs
    • BB- Acebutlol, propanolol,
    • Potassium channel blockers- amiodarone, bretylium, dofetilde, ibutikide, sotalol
    • Calium channel blocker- verapamil
