  2. Narcissitics Defenses
    • 1.- Projection (Paranoid delusions and auditory hallucinations)
    • 2.- Denial (Substance abuse, Abuse victims)
    • 3.-Splitting (Bordeline personality, prejudice and stereotypes)
  3. Immature Defenses
    • 1.- Blocking 
    • 2.- Regression (enuresis, demand breast feeding after sibling is born)
    • 3.- Somatization (Somatoform disorders, symptoms are physically real)
    • 4.- Introjection (when done consciously is called immitation. That's how the super ego is formed. Patient in psychotherapy gain introyection of the therapist)
  4. Anxiety Disorders
    • 1.- Displacement
    • 2.- Repression (forget  that you forget. People in concetration camps, children being abused. Can remember after traume or psychotherapy)
    • 3.- Isolation of affect (bland affect in schizophrenics [la belle indifference]often accompanies conversion)
    • 4.- Intellectualization (obsessive -compulsive anxiety disorder, rumination can result from this defense)
    • 5.- Acting out (border line and antisocial)
    • 6.- Rationalization (OCD)
    • 7.- Reaction formation (found in many anxiety disorders)
    • 8.- Undoing (OCD)
    • 9.- Passive-agressive (borderline and young children)
    • 10.-Dissociation (in extreme form it turns in to a dissociative disorder [fugue state, amnesia, multiple personality])
  5. Mature Defenses
    (less distorion of realitty)
    • 1.- Humor 
    • 2.- Sublimation (Art)
    • 3.- Supression (Forget but remember later [affraid of hights but enjoy a beatiful view from a cliff])
  6. Transfer
    • Not adefense mechanism
    • From patient to the physician
    • Countertransfer from the physician to the patient.
