Eosin vs. Hematoxylin?
Eosin for basic or acidophilic substances (proteins)
Hematoxylin is for acidic or basophilic substances (DNA)
What is Periodic acid-Schiff used for?
PAS (or HIO4) turns carbohydrates into aldehydes which can be tagged purple schiff reagent
What is the purpose of enzyme histochemistry?
Soluble, non-colored substrate are converted to non-soluble, colored products via enzyme activity.
Thus, the quantity of precipitate is proportional to enzyme activity
