    • MOA: cholinesterase inhibitor, 1st generation, increases Ach in the synaptic cleft
    • USES: delays progression of AD
    • AE: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, insominia, muscle cramps
  2. donepezil
    • MOA: cholinesterase inhibitor, 2nd generation, increases ach in the synaptic cleft
    • USES: perform daily activites better, approved for moderate and severe AD
    • AE:┬ánausea, diarrhea, vomiting, insominia, muscle cramps
  3. galantamine
    • MOA: cholinesterase inhibitor, 2nd gen, increases ach in synaptic cleft
    • USES: delays progression of AD
    • AE:┬ánausea, diarrhea, vomiting, insominia, muscle cramps
  4. rivastigmine
    • MOA: cholinesterase inhibitor, 2nd gen, increases ach in synaptic cleft
    • USES: delays progression of AD
    • AE:┬ánausea, diarrhea, vomiting, insominia, muscle cramps
  5. memantine
    • MOA: NMDA antagoinst, blocks the damage from too much glutamate (prolonged levels of glutamate allows continuous influx of Ca ions into the cells - neuronal death)
    • USES: perform daily activities better, approved for moderate to severe AD, could protect against chronically elevated concetrations of glutamate
    • AE: constipation, dizziness, headache
    • often used as an adjunct to cholinesterase inhibitors, not recommeded alone for tx of early disease
