  1. you see a person:
    Confirm the victim is choking.
  2. The victim nods his head with a "yes". He is not making any sounds. 
    Prepare heimlich maneuver. 
  3. what's the procedure?
    pull fist upwards into the victim's stomach. this causes the intestines to push the liver, pushing the diaphram, squeezing the lungs and pushes out the air.
  4. It has been 2 min and the victim is unconscious. 
    Lay the victim on their back and open their airway. 
  5. The item cannot be seen.
    tell someone to call 911. Open air way with head tilt, chin lift.  Pinch the nose and give two rescue breaths. landmark the xeiphoid process, plant and interlock.

  6. The air is not going in and the chest is not rising.
    Begin Abdominal Thrusts. Place the heel of your hand aboce the navel and interlock the other hand and press upward into the stomach area with 6-10 quick thrusts. Open airway and give 2 rescue breaths.
  7. what is the only way oxygen can get into the brain?
    Trachea. 
  8. What happens a person cannot breath for 2, 6, 10 min?
    • 2 - pass out
    • 6 - brain damage

    10- brain dead.
  9. you see someone with arterial bleeding: 
    describe the scene.
    blood is pulsing our bright red. call for help immediately.
  10. someone comes and asks what you need. why?
    A LOT of clean cloth. if it bleeds through the cloth, we need to add new ones and not remove the old one.
  11. you are given the cloth.
    apply direct pressure on the wound i elevate the limb abovve the heart (unless it's obviously broken). I keep the bandage firm but also check for capillary refill.
  12. you see that the victim is cold, pale and faint. what could be the cause?
    the victim is in shock due to the body's response to trauma. There is reduced bloodflow to the body. Keep the victim warm and try to talk and calm them down. Also, elevate their feet if the head does not have an injury
  13. the bleeding continues 
    find the pressure point between the heart and the wound. Press firmly and continue to apply pressure to the wound.
  14. There's an amputated limb.
    • apply direct pressure ont he stump to control bleeding. Wrap the amputated part in clearn cloth and place in a waterproof container and place that in a bag of ice.
    • Transport the limb with the victim. 
  15. You find out that the amputated part will be lost forever and the victim's stump is exessively bleeding.
    use a tourniquest by tieing a piece of cloth around the limb. This cuts off any blood beyond the tourniquet. Use this to save a life from exessive bleeding
  16. Which blood does the artery carry?
    takes blood away from the heart. Oxygenated.
  17. which blood do veins carry?
    brings blood back to the heart. deoxygenated. blood.
  18. what's the purpose of platelets?
    it gets stuck around the lesion
  19. what's the purpose of fibrin?
    it starts stranding together once it hits the lesion. It also attracts platelets and starts accumulation.
  20. what is the bump behind your head called?
    occipital protuberance

  22. you see: arizona with a broken bone 
    Identify the broken area. Symptoms  include pain and swelling. Take victim to doctor immediately.
  23. You see that it's sticking through the skin
    cover the skin with a clean sterile cloth since the chance for infection is great.
  24. now what?
    immobilize the broken limb by SPLINTING IT WHERE IT LIES.  don't try to straighten or set the bone. Leave finger and toes open so you can check for capilarry refill.
  25. it's set and you want to transport the victim.
    place the area in a sling.
  26. for arizona's case... how do you immobilize her broken leg?
    don't remove the shoe if possible. Keep and place ice over area of broken bones to relieve some pain.
  27. what's a hematoma?
    begins swelling and pushes the bone coating while causing pain.
  28. what's a colles fracture?
    breakage of the wrist
  29. what's a potts fracture
    breakage of the leg
  30. how do you do a tap test?
    tap the ulna
  31. when you get a broken bone, what occurs that can last for years?
    calluses
