    Increases serum glucose levels reversing hypoglycemia

    Riases blood glucose levels reversing CNS side effects of hypoglycemia
  6. Dosage for Dextrose?
    Adult dosage via IV push in larger vein

    Adult -

    D50 25grams IV push
  7. Contraindications for Dextrose?
    • Thiamine deficiency unless thiamine can also be given
    • Avoid using D50 in the following unless hypoglycemia can be proven:
    • Head injury
    • CVA 
    • Delerium tremens
  8. Drug interactions for Dextrose?
    Incompatible with other drugs.  Flush line well after use.  
  9. Side effects for Dextrose?
    • Worsens ICP in head injuries or CVA
    • Extravsation may cause tissue necrosis
    • Scleroses small veins
  10. Onset of action for Dextrose?
    Seconds
  11. AZ drug box supply for Dextrose?
    2 x 25gram in 50cc prefilled syringe

    Antiemetic
  15. Mechanism of action for Zofran?
    • Selective 5-HT3 receptor agonist
    •      Stops nausea / vomiting by blocking receptors
  16. Indications and field use for Zofran?
    Nausea / Vomiting

    Why?

    Blocks 5-HT3 receptors
  17. Dosage for Zofran?
    Dosage is slow IV push or IM

    Adult:

    4mg slow IV push over 2 minutes
  18. Contraindications for Zofran?
    • Known hypersensitivity / Allergy
    • Use caution in patients with hepatic impariment
    • Apomorphine
  19. Drug interactions for Zofran?
    None
  20. Side effects for Zofran?
    • Chest pain
    • Headache
    • Arrhythmias
    • Lethargy
    • Dizziness
  21. Onset of action for Zofran?
    10-30 minutes

    2 x 4mg in 2 cc vial
