  1. What is life science?
    A term that encompasses all scientific pursuits related to living organisms.
  2. Archaeology
    The study of past human life as revealed by preserved relics.
  3. Artifacts
    Objects made by people, such as tools, weapons, containers, etc.
  4. Geology
    The study of earths history as revealed in the rocks that make up the earth.
  5. Paleontology
    The study of life's history as revealed in the preserved remains of once-living organisms.
  6. What are the three tests that a document has to go through to be considered reliable?
    They are internal test, the the external test, and the bibliographic test.
  7. What do scientists do when they are using the three tests on a document?
    On the internal test they see if the document contridicts itself. On the external test, they see if any other document that can be trusted contradicts it. On the bibliographic test, to be a trusted document it must contian either direct eyewitness accounts or second-hand reports.
  8. What is the known age?
    The known age is the age of an artifact as determined by a date printed on it or a reference to the artifact in a work of history.
  9. What is dendrochronololgy (den' droh kron awl' uh jee)?
    It is the process of counting tree rings to determine the age of a tree
  10. What is a master tree parern?
    It is a pattern in tree rings caused by the weather.
  11. What is best in a bibliography test on a document for it to be considered a reliable document?
    There are two good things that can happen.  One is that many different documents are made that say that one of the things that tested document says.  The other is that there is a short time span inbetween the tested document and the other documents that are confirming it.
  12. What is radiometric dating?
    It is when scientists use a radioactive process to determine the age of an object.
  13. What is absolute age?
    It is the calculated age of an artifact from a specific dating method that is used to determine when the artiact was made.  It does not mean the correct or sure date.
  14. What is Aristotle's dictum?
    The benefit of the doubt is to be given to the document itself, not assigned by the critic to himself.
  15. What is the Principle of Superpotition?
    When artifacts are found in rock or earth that is layered, the deeper layers hold the older artifacts.
  16. Who are the geologists who study volcanoes to find out if they are active or will become active?
  17. Why is history important related to a life science?
    To understand something you need to see how history has shaped its development.
  18. What is historical archaeology?
    Historical archaeology deas with the physical evidence of activities of people who had left written records of their history.
