1. What is Direct current (DC)?
Direct currunt is a currunt in which charged particles travel through a circuit in one direction.
2. What is Alternating current (AC)?
Alternating currunt is a current in which electrons move back and forth in a circuit.
3. What is a Transformer?
A transformer is an electric device that changes the size of the potential difference of an alterning currunt.
4. What is a Circuit breaker?
A circuit breaker is a saftey device that is placed in series with other circuits that lead to appliances and outlets.
5. What is a Fuse?
A fuse is a saftey device that is found in older buildings and some appliances like a circuit breaker it is placed in series with other circuits that lead to appliances and outlets,
6. What is Electrical power?
Electrical power is the rate in which an appliance uses electrical energy.
7. What is a Watt (W)?
A watt is a unit of electrical power 1kilowatt = 1000W
8. What is a Kilowatt (kW)?
• A kilowatt is a practical unit of electrical power.
• 1kW=1000W
9. What is Electrical energy?
This is the energy that is used by an appliance at a given setting, is determined by multiplying its power rating by the length of time it is used.
10. What is Kilowatt-hour (kW∙h)?
This is the practical unit of electrical energy.
11. What is a EnerGuide label?
This is a label that gives details about how much energy an appliance uses in one year of normal use.
12. What is a Smart meter?
A smart meter is a meter that records the total electrical energy used hour by hour and sends the information to the utility company automatically.
13. What is Time of use pricing?
This is a system of pricing in which the cost of each kW.h of energy used is different at different times of the day.
14. What is a Phantom load?
A phantom load is the electricity that is consoumed by an appliance or device when it is turned of.
15. What is Efficiency?
Efficiency is the ratio of usefull energy output to total energy input, expressed as a percentage.
16. What is a Base load?
A base load is the continous minimum demand for electrical power.
17. What is Hydroelectric power generation?
This is the production of electricity using a source of moving water.
18. What is a Intermediate load?
This is a demand for electricity that is greater than the bease load and is met by burning coal and natural gas.
19. What is a Peak load?
A peak load is the greatest demand for electricity which is met by using natural gas and hydroelectic power.
20. What is a Renewable energy source?
This is a source of energy that can be replaced in a relativily short time.
21. What is a Non-renewable energy source?
This is a source of energy that cannot be replaced as fast as it is being used.
22. What is Solar energy?
This is energy that is directly converted from the enrgy of the sun into electricity.
23. What is a Photovoltaic effect?
This is the generation of a direct currunt when certin materials are exposed to light.
24. What is Biomass energy?
This is a renewable energy source it is a biological material from living, or recently living organisms.
