What does the urinary system include?
What are the 2 kinds of nephrons?
- Corticol Nephrons
- Juxtamedullary Nephrons
What are the 3 main regions of the kidney?
What are the structures of the nephron?
- Renal Corpuscle
- Renal Tubule
What are the 3 parts of the renal tubules?
- Proximal convulated tubule (PCT)
- Loop of Henley
- Distal convulated tubule (DCT)
What are the functional units of the kidney?
What supplies blood to the glomerulus?
What is glomerular filtration?
As blood flows through the glomerular capillaries, protein-free plasma filters into the Bowman's capsule
What drains the glomerulus of remaining blood?
What is reabsorption?
The movement of filtered solutes and water from the lumen of the renal tubules back into the plasma.
What ensures the reabsorption of glucose?
- Glucose carriers
- Secondary active transport through sodium pumps
What is ADH influenced by?
- Volume & pressure of cardiovascular system
What is the primary action of ADH?
Increase permeability of the distal tubule and collecting duct to water
How does ADH work?
Binds to receptors in principle cells to cause reaction by opening aquaporins
What controls aldosterone?
What would you like to do?
