  1. Thalamus 
    contains relay and processing centers for sensory information 
  2. Hypothalamus
    Contains centers involved with emotions, autonomic function, and hormone production. 
  3. Cerebellum
    The second largest structure in the brain. Functions include coordinating and modulating motor commands from the cerebral cortex. 
  4. Cerebrum
    The largest part of the adult brain. Divided into two cerebral hemispheres. Functions include conscious thought, memory storage and processing, sensory processing, and the regulation of skeletal muscle contractions. 
  5. Brain Stem
    Includes the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata. 
  6. Midbrain
    Processes visual and auditory information and controls reflexes triggered by these stimuli. Contains centers that help maintain consciousness. 
  7. Pons
    Connects cerebellum to the brain stem, somatic and visceral motor control.
  8. Medulla Oblongta
    Relays sensory information to other portions of the brain stem, and to the thalamus. Contains major centers that regulate autonomic function such as heart rate and blood pressure.
