The reason for the framework’s emphasis on economic drivers is that the urban redevelopment in any city is tied to economic growth. Without an understanding of this aspect, the rebuild of the city will not progress successfully.
Considering this point, six economic drivers within the city have been identified that can inform, urban and architecture proposals.The following slides will highlight these six key economic issues in the city, and the potential avenues for solutions
Firstly, The Innovation economy identifies the decline of the labor intensive manufacturing sector in Christchurch, which is the main source of employment in the city. 
The Economic potential comes from fostering the growth of existing high value sectors and creating new employment opportunities. This shifts the city towards producing knowledge based commodities, that contributes towards its economic growth.
