Flash Cards for Foundation Chemistry, Limestone, and Building Materials.
Define what an 'Atom' is.
All matter in the universe is made of atoms; they are the smallest particle of an Element.
What are Elements?
An element is a substance made up of only one type of pure atom. They can be found on the Periodic table, ranging from the number of electrons in their outer shell.
What are Compounds?
Compounds are two or more atoms chemically joined or bonded together.
What are Mixtures? Not cake mixtures...
Mixtures are two or more different Elements or Compounds that are NOT chemically joined, thus making it easier to seperate as it uses less energy.
What are atoms made of? Hint: Think of the layers in an Atom.
Atoms are composed of particles called Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons. The Protons and Neutrons cluster together in the central part of the atom, called the nucleus, and the electrons 'orbit' the nucleus.
