The flashcards below were created by user tapper1808 on FreezingBlue Flashcards. What would you like to do?

  1. Peptide bond
    • Dehydration reaction, H2O removed
    • Carboxyl C of one amino acid covalently bonds to the amino N of a second.

Carboxyl loses O and amino loses H2

    Forms polymer
  2. N-terminus
End of amino acid containing amino group.
  3. C-terminus
End of amino acid containing carboxyl group.
  4. Protein
Polypeptide that has obtained a stable, unique, 3-D shape and is biologically active as a result.
  5. Monomeric protein
Consists of a single polypeptide chain.
  6. Multimeric proteins
Consist of 2 or more polypeptide chains.  Called polypeptide subunits.
  7. Dimer
    Protein composed of 2 polypeptides.
  8. Trimer
    Protein composed of 3 polypeptides.
  9. Tetramer
    Protein composed of 4 polypeptides.

Hemoglobin: 2 alpha and 2 beta
