  1. Aphorism
    a terse saying embodying a general truth, or astute observation

    Ex. “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”
  2. Apostrophe
    a digression in the form of an address to someone not present, or to a personified object or idea

    Ex. “O Death, where is thy sting?”
  3. Chiasmus
    a reversal in the order of words in two otherwise parallel phrases

    Ex. “He went to the country, to the town went she.”
  4. Neologism
    1. a new word, meaning, usage, or phrase.

    2. the introduction or use of new words or new senses of existing words.
  5. Epistrophe
    (epiphora) the repetition of a word or words at the end of two or more successive verses, clauses, or sentences

    Ex. “I should do Brutus wrong, and Cassius wrong. …”
  6. Euphemism
    the substitution of a mild, indirect, or vague expression for one thought to be offensive, harsh, or blunt.

    Ex. “To pass away” is a euphemism for “to die.”
